This is a very easy mini-pie recipe that your kids can help make for Valentine's day. You'll need a heart-shaped cookie cutter (about the size of your hand is perfect). This recipe is adapted from Frugal Coupon Living.
Ingredients
  • vegan and/or gluten free pie crusts
  • 12 oz cherry pie filling
  • milk of your choice

Units:
Instructions
  1. Place the pie crust on a clean, flat surface. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to create as many hearts as you can. Roll scraps together with your hands and then flatten to make a few more hearts.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 and grease a baking sheet or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Set half of the hearts onto the baking sheet. Using the milk of your choice (dairy, almond, cashew, oat, rice, soy, etc.), wet the edges of each heart.
  4. Spoon a small amount of cherry pie filling into the center of each heart.
  5. Make a "sandwich" by placing the remaining hearts on top of the cherry-filled hearts. Press the edges of the dough together. The milk should help them stick, so wet your fingers with milk or brush more milk onto the dough if needed.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut a small X into the center of each heart. Brush a thin layer of milk on top of each pie.
  7. For a sweeter pie, sprinkle the pies with sugar.
  8. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the edges of the pies are brown.
